Lanzaroady!

Fly out to Lanzarote for some winter sun and hire bikes for a few days to explore the islands.

Half a dozen mates from David's work are heading out there for the Annual Hooley; Ride by day, drink by night.

basic plan

fly to Lanzarote to celebrate Farid's retirement with the BMW Hooley Club
hire motorbikes and explore the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
for non-bikers that want to feel the wind on their vaginas, 125cc scooters can be hired with a full car licence
stay in Costa Teguise for the duration and do day trips

most people are doing Wednesday 5th or Thursday 6th November to Monday 10th November
some people may come and go to suit their own schedules

Looking at two options at the moment:

hire for three days close to the hotel
- Blue Speed are based in Costa Teguise and offer free delivery and pickup
  - easier to arrange bike when based in Costa Teguise
  - also have scooters for non-bikers
  - Have Royal Enfield Himalayan and Interceptor 650 (plus others)
    - Himalayan for three days: €210
    - Interceptor for three days: €255 (David has reserved, they only have one)
    - Macbor Montana XR5: €225 (Joe has reserved, they only have one)
hire for full time from close to the airport
- Lanzarote Moto Rentals are south of the airport, could pick up a bike on arrival and drop if off when flying out:
- saves on transfers between airport and hotel (15km); but would probably be sharing with other players
- would need to taxi to and from hotel, 8km each way
- has a Yamaha Tenare T700 (plus others)

With three days riding I've created three routes:

North Lanzarote - 126kms

suitable for bikes and scooters
points of interest:
- The Cactus Garden - with over 1000 species in a terraced former quarry, with a cafe & restored windmill
- Cueva de los Verdes - This is a natural wonder where the lava from the volcano cooled quickly and left over 7km of tunnels
- Jameos del Agua - Unique volcanic tunnel & caverns featuring an underground concert hall, restaurant & salt lake
- Orzola - northernmost settlement of the island
- Mirador del Río - amazing viewpoint overlooking La Graciosa, also has a cafe
- Haría - Valley of a Thousand Palms - one of the most spectacular locations on the island
- Valle de Malpaso - spectacular viewpoint and winding road
- Restaurante Mirador de Los Valles - recommended restaurant for lunch
- Teguise - charming old colonial captial of the island
- Playa de La Isleta - beautiful beach on west coast of the island

South Lanzarote - 165kms

suitable for bikes and scooters
points of interest:
- La Geria - the valley is home to Lanzarote's most important wine-growing area
- Playa Quemada - small, non-tourist coastal village (“Burnt Beach” in English)
- Playa de Papagayo - one of the most popular beaches of the island
- Playa del Janubio - long stretch of black volcanic beach separating a saltwater lagoon & the ocean
- Los Hervideros - rugged volcanic coastline known for waves crashing into sea caves & picturesque views
- Casa Rafa Restaurante De Mar - recommended seafood restaurant for lunch
- Timanfaya National Park - stunning volcanic national park
- Playa de las Malvas - pure black beach with bumpy dirt road to get there

Fuerteventura - 419kms

not suitable for scooters due to risk of vaginal windburn
